The Department of War announced the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Mil on GenAI.mil, the department’s generative AI platform.
The department said this is the adoption phase of an enterprise partnership it established with OpenAI in 2025.
ChatGPT Mil is accredited for Controlled Unclassified Information at Impact Level 5, bringing a secure, commercial experience to the department’s environment designed for warfighter needs.
Its capabilities focus on chat, files, projects and custom GPTs, with features to be sequenced over time. The platform also supports document-heavy unclassified work like planning, policy, logistics and administration, and is built for scale to support over 3 million DOW personnel.
“This deployment accelerates routine tasks and frees up time for more critical projects across the Joint Force,” the DOW said.
The launch of ChatGPT Mil supports the White House’s AI Action Plan.
