GDIT Wins $71M CBP Contract for Autonomous Border Surveillance Towers

GDIT has been awarded a $71 million task order, with a potential value of up to $115 million, by Customs and Border Protection for autonomous surveillance towers along the southwest border.

The task order was awarded under the $1.8 billion Consolidated Tower & Surveillance Equipment IDIQ contract and has a one-year base period.

GDIT’s Relocatable Autonomous Surveillance Towers use edge AI, machine learning, patented video analytics and 5G and satellite communications to detect, identify, classify and track items of interest in real time. Unlike traditional surveillance systems, the towers autonomously monitor long-range environments, prioritize alerts and deliver actionable intelligence without constant operator oversight — reducing workloads, accelerating decision-making and freeing border personnel for field operations.

The towers are engineered for rapid deployment across multiple operational environments, including maritime and cold-weather regions along the northern border. They’re also designed to integrate counter-unmanned aircraft systems capabilities as border threats evolve.

“This administration has made it a priority to secure the border and bring emerging technology to their missions,” said Michael Wagner, GDIT’s vice president of Biometrics, Border & Transportation Security. “We have invested over the last three years to develop these autonomous surveillance towers, and we look forward to partnering with CBP to rapidly scale and deploy these towers so border agents can carry out their missions more effectively.”
