Alex Burkart
Operating Group President, Information Solutions and Security, Koniag Government Services, LLC
Alex Burkart leads KGS’ efforts to modernize federal cybersecurity through AI-driven risk management framework modernization and automation. He’s also delivering solutions such as automated Federal Information Security Modernization Act and Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act compliance, zero-trust architecture deployments and next-generation identity, credential and access management modernization.
“By putting AI at the forefront of our operations and unleashing our company’s best and brightest through our Cybersecurity Center of Excellence and Community of Practice, we are rapidly delivering innovative solutions to our federal customers’ toughest challenges, transforming the federal cyber defense landscape,” Burkart said.
His strategic vision has positioned KGS as the go-to partner for agencies seeking to meet evolving cyber requirements at scale, expanding the company’s footprint across the Defense Department, civilian agencies and the intelligence community while pioneering the integration of AI into risk management frameworks and continuous authorization processes.
Under Burkart, Koniag Government Services and its subsidiaries landed major cyber contracts with the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Nuclear Security Administration and the U.S. Air Force. The company achieved CMMC Level 2 certification with zero plans of action and milestones, and became one of the first 8(a) small businesses qualified for all six GSA Multiple Award Schedule HACS subgroups.
KGS is aggressively aligning with the current administration’s mandate for a more efficient government by deploying cutting-edge AI and automation technologies to streamline federal operations. KGS executed the largest federal civilian zero-trust program supporting 77 million users and is transforming a large federal health customer’s ATO processes through AI, reducing timelines by 80% while delivering enterprise threat detection.
KGS’ intelligent automation solutions have saved over $37 million and 687,000 work hours annually by automating procurement processes across the Army, Air Force and DHS. At another large federal agency, the company’s AI-driven help desk analysts resolve 70% of cases automatically—saving an additional 60,000 hours a year.
Why Watch
Burkart is leading AI-driven cybersecurity automation across major federal agencies. That work includes integrating AI into next-generation SIEM architectures to continuously monitor, detect and neutralize threats— reducing manual compliance workloads and accelerating zero-trust adoption in the process.
The goal is a shift in how federal agencies think about security teams: less “the team that says no,” more an accelerant for delivering secure solutions at mission speed.
“Alex established the KGS Cyber Center of Excellence, transforming KGS into a go-to cybersecurity powerhouse to help customers meet their most demanding cyber requirements at mission speed,” said KGS CEO Kevin Wideman. “His ability to build scalable cybersecurity infrastructure while developing the next generation of cyber talent positions us as a strategic partner for agencies navigating increasingly complex threat landscapes. Alex doesn’t just respond to cybersecurity challenges — he anticipates them and builds the capabilities our customers need before they know they need them.”
Fun fact: Burkart rides a motorcycle, loves to water ski and is very involved in his local church. He leads the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child initiative for McLean Bible Church Loudoun, packing over 200 shoeboxes annually, sending gifts to children around the world.
