General Dynamics Information Technology has joined the OpenAI Partner Network to expand AI capabilities across the federal government.
“Federal agencies are operating in an increasingly complex environment where scaling software innovation and automating mission workflows securely are critical,” said Ben Gianni, GDIT’s senior vice president and chief technology officer.
“Through our partnership with OpenAI, we are empowering agencies to move confidently toward a future where human expertise and autonomous AI agents work together to deliver faster, safer and more effective public service for the American people.”
As agencies upgrade legacy systems and improve public services and security, this collaboration combines GDIT’s mission and integration services with OpenAI’s cutting-edge models to modernize infrastructure, get more value from data and expand mission outcomes, the company said.
The partnership will focus on three priority areas:
-
Accelerated public sector AI adoption: GDIT will use OpenAI models, including GPT-5.6, to automate routine workflows, process complex cases and analyze data at scale.
-
Secure AI-enabled software development: GDIT will deploy Codex in secure federal environments to review, test and modernize applications, including systems built on legacy languages such as COBOL and Fortran.
-
Federal systems integration and modernization: GDIT will integrate OpenAI models with existing agency systems while protecting sensitive data, maintaining interoperability and meeting federal compliance requirements.
“AI is rapidly transforming how complex systems are built, interconnected and defended,” said Joseph Larson, vice president, OpenAI for Government.
“Partnering with GDIT allows us to bring Codex’s advanced reasoning and our secure API delivery models directly to federal missions. Together, we are providing public sector developers and operators with the compliant, multi‑agent tools required to modernize infrastructure and deliver mission impacts faster than ever before.”
This partnership is a part of GDIT’s Vision, Acceleration and Innovation strategy.
