Marc Tate
Director of Federal Civilian Sales, Sonatype
Marc Tate built Sonatype’s federal civilian business — delivering significant year-over-year growth while expanding adoption across major civilian agencies — by positioning software supply chain security, AI governance and SBOM automation as strategic priorities supporting agencies’ modernization and cybersecurity missions.
“Marc combines deep federal market expertise with an exceptional ability to build trusted customer relationships and high-performing teams,” said Sonatype Vice President of Public Sector Christopher Weber. “His leadership is accelerating Sonatype’s growth across the federal civilian market while helping agencies strengthen software supply chain security and confidently embrace AI.”
Why Watch
In 2026, Tate’s team is focused on helping federal agencies securely adopt AI while strengthening software supply chain resilience and automating supply chain security so development teams can identify and remediate risk sooner, reduce manual compliance efforts, and accelerate software delivery while staying secure.
“We’re partnering with agencies to modernize DevSecOps practices through automated software composition analysis, SBOM management and policy-driven governance that aligns with evolving federal cybersecurity requirements,” he said.
As a result, organizations get to spend less time chasing vulnerabilities and more time delivering mission outcomes, he said. The nature of partnership-oriented work points toward his overall leadership philosophy.
“True leadership isn’t about hoarding knowledge; it’s about distribution,” Tate said. “You have a choice: build a lasting legacy by actively sharing your wisdom and experiences to lift others up or allow that insight to fade away by keeping it to yourself.”
Fun fact: Tate competes in the arcade video game “Golden Tee” and has traveled to play in several tournaments across the U.S. He calls it “a fantastic, fast-paced community” that keeps his competitive drive sharp outside his day job.
