Siemens Government Technologies has won an $80 million award from the Army Contracting Command to help transform a World War II-era facility into an advanced manufacturing hub for producing electric motor stator assemblies for unmanned aircraft systems.
“This project really is emblematic of a whole of Siemens approach to meet an urgent Army priority,” said John Ustica, president and CEO of Siemens Government Technologies. “The ability for the Army to control its own production and manufacturing environment, leveraging AI-driven digital twins and a digital first mindset, will accelerate their organic expertise and innovation for next generation unmanned aircraft system development and sustainment.”
Under the 12-month performance period, SGT will take a “born digital” approach, using process-rich digital twins to model and validate manufacturing processes before production lines are physically commissioned, the company said.
The digital environment will connect advanced manufacturing elements and allow the Army and SGT to optimize production virtually before equipment is installed and operations begin. SGT will also incorporate safety, power and energy resiliency into the manufacturing environment, including capabilities for fire and life safety, on-site energy generation, energy storage and distributed power and interconnection technologies.
