Jay Keller
Vice President, Defense, Red Hat
Jay Keller spearheaded a global collaboration with Panasonic to deploy Red Hat Device Edge onto ruggedized TOUGHBOOK devices, enabling secure, near-real-time data processing for tactical communications and unmanned operations in contested environments.
Furthermore, Red Hat has a key partnership with NVIDIA to deliver “Day 0” support for the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform, equipping defense agencies with a highly secure, rack-scale infrastructure optimized for distributed AI inference, confidential computing and agentic AI.
To scale these technological wins, in January 2026, Red Hat North America Public Sector leadership aligned the sales organization to better serve customer needs by consolidating the Aerospace and War Department sales groups into a single defense team under Keller’s purview, enabling a shared vision for growth across programs, systems integrators and partners.
“From my early career being forward deployed aboard a ship, to the tip of tech innovation, I’ve spent over three decades preparing for this mission: leveraging my military and industry experience to keep the Department of War and our industry partners steps ahead of the competition,” Keller said.
Why Watch
In 2026, the Red Hat defense team is bridging cutting-edge commercial technology with the future-proof needs of national security. Under Keller’s leadership, Red Hat pioneered the deployment of enterprise open-source capabilities to the tactical edge, notably collaborating with Lockheed Martin to standardize AI and Kubernetes workloads on military platforms like the Stalker unmanned aerial system.
As defense sectors face the urgent threat of “harvest now, decrypt later” cyberattacks, Red Hat is positioned at the forefront of national security readiness by integrating NIST-approved post-quantum cryptography standards directly into Red Hat’s foundational platforms.
Keller’s team is working on drastically reducing administrative overhead and cutting through bureaucratic red tape by establishing unified, pre-negotiated purchasing frameworks. These agreements allow public agencies to acquire modern technologies and services at speed, shifting focus from slow procurement cycles to rapid mission execution.
Fun fact: At 17, Keller had his parents sign his contract to enlist in the U.S. Navy, launching his career in the tech-heavy Meteorology and Oceanography community. When he isn’t steering defense strategy for Red Hat, he’s an avid snowboarder logging as much mountain time as he can, usually in Colorado. Come the off-season, he’s back on the golf course, though his handicap is still a work in progress.
